Alpha Sofa by Pieff for Heal's, 1980s

The Alpha model produced by Pieff belongs to that moment when British design of the 1980s began to use the contrast between materials as an integral part of the project. Here, the softness of the upholstery is balanced by a visible steel structure that introduces a more technical and architectural component.

The proportions are generous and built around comfort: deep seating, a substantial backrest, and soft volumes that immediately invite daily use. However, the steel lightens the overall perception of the sofa, preventing the upholstered volume from appearing too heavy and creating that typical contrast found in much of Pieff's production.

The original cream-colored fabric, originally purchased at Heal's in London, further contributes to this balance. The light hue softens the visual impact of the metal frame and makes the piece easily adaptable to contemporary settings.
