Key Details

Not all bookcases are designed to be placed against a wall. This freestanding oak structure, on the other hand, is designed to occupy space autonomously, creating an architectural presence without visually closing off the environment. This is a typical approach in Scandinavian design, which pays particular attention to the relationship between furniture and the domestic space.

The horizontally developed structure alternates surfaces and open compartments, creating a regular rhythm that allows for organizing books, objects, and small decorative elements. The oak, with its natural hue and visible grain, gives the composition a more tactile and luminous character, while maintaining the essentiality typical of North European modernism.

Its limited depth allows it to be used even in environments where space is limited. Placed in the center of a room, it can become a light divider between two functional areas, while placed against a wall, it transforms into a traditional bookcase. Its open configuration maintains visual continuity and allows light to pass through the structure.

It is precisely this versatility that makes it still relevant today. In a living room, it can hold books and collectibles; in a study, it can organize materials and documents; while in an open-plan space, it can help define areas without resorting to permanent architectural elements. An example of Scandinavian design where the storage function also becomes a tool for constructing space.
