Set of 4 chairs by Thomas Harlev for Farstrup Møbler, 1960s

These chairs designed by Thomas Harlev have a characteristic that is immediately noticeable: the backrest almost seems to draw a smile. It is probably this detail that makes them so recognizable, but also explains why, despite their light proportions, they are particularly comfortable for everyday use.

The teak frame creates clean and very soft lines, with continuous joints that lighten the chair's profile without losing its presence. The curved backrest naturally supports posture, while the new light blue fabric introduces a brighter and more contemporary note, creating a very elegant contrast with the warm tones of the wood.

Around a table, these chairs work particularly well because they manage to do two things at once: occupy little visual space and maintain a very defined presence. It is probably this combination of comfort, lightness, and organic design that has made Harlev's designs among the most recognizable in Danish production of those years.
