Compact teak chest of drawers, 1960s

Six drawers almost entirely occupy the front of this chest of drawers, creating a regular sequence of horizontal bands. The pulls are integrated directly into the fronts: a discreet detail that avoids the addition of handles and leaves the teak visually as the protagonist.

The compact structure concentrates good storage capacity within a contained footprint. It can find its place in the bedroom, but also in the entryway or living room, especially when additional storage space is needed without resorting to a long or particularly imposing piece of furniture.

The teak grain changes slightly from one drawer to another, adding movement to an otherwise very rigorous facade. The raised base, on the other hand, creates a clear break beneath the body of the cabinet, lightening its presence.

It is a very practical 1960s modern antique in its conception: plenty of useful space, few decorative concessions, and a construction that lets the material speak for itself. These characteristics continue to make it easy to incorporate even outside of an entirely mid-century interior.
