The GE290 is one of those designs where Hans Wegner manages to achieve the maximum with very few elements. The structure is reduced to the essential, but every detail contributes to defining the comfort and identity of the seat. Observing it closely, one clearly perceives the approach that made Wegner a central figure in Danish design: eliminating the superfluous until only what is truly necessary remains.

The oak structure highlights the quality of craftsmanship and the direct relationship between material and construction. The armrests develop as a natural extension of the frame, while the legs and uprights maintain a visual lightness that avoids any feeling of rigidity. The entire design seems built to leave space for the person using it.

Particularly interesting is the inclination of the seat and backrest, designed to promote a relaxed posture without sacrificing support. It is an armchair designed for reading, conversation, or simple rest, capable of offering comfort for long periods thanks to the balance between structure and upholstery.

Produced by Getama in 1960, the GE290 represents one of the most successful expressions of post-war Scandinavian design. Even today, it maintains extraordinary relevance and fits naturally into both modernist interiors and contemporary environments, where the quality of materials and the clarity of the design continue to make a difference.
