Key Details
The Alpha model produced by Pieff belongs to that moment when 1980s British design began to use the contrast between materials as an integral part of the project. Here, the softness of the upholstery is balanced by a visible steel structure that introduces a more technical and architectural component.
The proportions are generous and built around comfort: deep seating, prominent backrest, and soft volumes that immediately invite daily use. However, the steel lightens the overall perception of the sofa, preventing the upholstered volume from appearing too heavy and creating that typical contrast found in much of Pieff's production.
The original fabric, originally purchased at Heal's in London, further contributes to this balance. The shade softens the visual impact of the metal structure and makes the piece easily insertable even in contemporary environments.
It is a sofa that works well precisely because of this continuous tension between opposing elements: soft and structured, technical yet welcoming, very 1980s yet surprisingly current.
