Key Details
The name Compass Chair can be understood by observing its structure: the back legs splay outwards, creating a slim and dynamic profile, particularly evident when the six chairs are viewed together. The rosewood highlights these structural elements without turning them into mere decoration.
Here, Kai Kristiansen works with the contrast between a very clean structure and the two upholstered parts. The wide, slightly shaped backrest seems almost suspended between the side uprights; the seat replicates the same softness, leaving the legs and wooden joints clearly visible. The result is a comfortable yet visually light dining chair.
The current upholstery needs to be redone: the six chairs can therefore be customized by choosing a new fabric from those we have available. This is an interesting opportunity, especially for a complete set, as it allows for intervention on color and texture while maintaining the rosewood structure and the identity of the design intact.
Arranged around a large table, the Compass Chairs create a very recognizable composition without appearing uniform or rigid. A set of vintage modern furniture that brings together some central characteristics of mid-century Danish design: attention to construction, expressive use of wood, and a form designed first and foremost in relation to the body and daily use.
