Teak sideboard with central drawers, 1960s

This sideboard does not attempt to hide the wood behind a perfectly uniform facade. On the contrary, it is precisely the variations in the teak that create its appearance: denser grains, darker areas, and different patterns run across doors and drawers, changing the front depending on the light.

The composition is symmetrical, with a central chest of drawers framed by side compartments. The small circular handles barely interrupt the surfaces and allow the teak's design to remain prominent. The slender legs, however, lift the body of the furniture from the floor, lightening its volume despite its significant size.

This is a sideboard that can hold a lot without looking like a purely functional piece of furniture. Dishes and textiles in the dining area, books and objects in the living room: the internal organization allows it to play different roles, while the long top surface becomes a space to be decorated with lamps, art, and ceramics.

A 1960s vintage piece that incorporates many elements of mid-century Scandinavian design, but with a less minimalist character than usual. Here, it is the teak, with its strong and irregular visual presence, that does much of the work.
